Improving and extending the internationalization (i18n) of CommonSpaces.
- Additional information
-
i18n is an abbreviation of the 20-character long word "internationalization" (or internationalisation), which retains its first and last letters and replaces the remaining 18 by their count.
CommonSpaces is already a multilingual platform, at some extent. A help page, available since years, addresses this aspect and provides also some technical information for content contributors and translators (Internationalization); its multilingual nature derives from several distinct features, some of which are built entirely into its software - the CommonS Platform -, while others require further work by content curators, including translators.
This project aims at improving and extending the international support of both CommonSpaces (a big community of communities) and the CommonS Platform. It is a support project (see the help page Communities and projects for some explanation); as a consequence, its membership is not entirely open; however, willing contributors are welcome!
This project will address general issues about CommonSpaces i18n, by hosting related resources (see the help pages Open Educational Resources and Learning paths) and discussions (see Communities and projects). As a rule, additional projects will be dedicated to individual target languages; English is the source language for all redactional materials; it works as a lingua franca.
