In this tutorial, I will walk through the steps to turn text data into a format that a machine can understand, share some of the most popular text analytics techniques, and showcase several natural language processing (NLP) libraries in Python including NLTK, TextBlob, spaCy and gensim.

Natural Language Processing techniques allow addressing tasks like text classification and information extraction and content generation. They can give the perception of machines being able to understand humans and respond more naturally. In this session, Barbara will introduce basic concepts of natural language processing. Using Python and its machine learning libraries the attendees will go through the process of building the bag of words representation and using it for text classification. It can be then used to recognise the sentiment, category or the authorship of the document. The goal of this tutorial is to build the intuition on the simple natural language processing task. After this session, the audience will know basics of the text representation, learn how to develop the classification model and use it in real-world applications.

Natural language processing (NLP) is a form of AI that extracts meaning from human language to make decisions based on the information. Natural language processing is behind the scenes for several things you may take for granted every day. When you ask your AI-assistant for directions or to send a text, Natural Language Processing enables that functionality.This technology is still evolving, but there are already many incredible ways NLP is used today. Natural language processing (NLP) is a form of AI that extracts meaning from human language to make decisions based on the information. Natural language processing is behind the scenes for several things you may take for granted every day. When you ask your AI-assistant for directions or to send a text, Natural Language Processing enables that functionality.This technology is still evolving, but there are already many incredible ways NLP is used today. In this tech talk, we will start with understanding what is NLP and what is its pipeline. After that, we’ll go through an example on how to integrate structured data & unstructured data to generate recommendations using Watson NLU and Watson Studio on IBM Cloud. This example is a configurable yet scalable HR recommendation process which will help in merging the different data sources and expedite the process of decision making.
