How Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google manipulate our emotions | Scott Galloway

view resource

Nowadays, big companies use different strategies to manipulate people and set some unwritten rules. People are affected by these strategies unconsciously. They influence our lives, our choices and make us feel as if we make our own choices where in fact these choices are manipulated. One example of this strategy is "more for less" notion which currently most big companies employ. As a result of these strategies, nowadays people purchase more than what they actually need. Big companies such as Amazon, Wallmart etc. are some of the examples that use these tactics. Besides this,in a modern world, people are convinced that if they buy something that is for example more expensive or more "healthy", they are better mother, better father or just better person. These make people feel like they are more choosy and they care more about their children. This is how our emotions are used for the benefit of companies. The combined market capitalization of Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google is now equivalent to the GDP of India. How did these four companies come to infiltrate our lives so completely? In a spectacular rant, Scott Galloway shares insights and eye-opening stats about their dominance and motivation -- and what happens when a society prizes shareholder value over everything else. Followed by a Q&A with TED Curator Chris Anderson. (Note: This talk contains graphic language.)
